“Being in city government is exciting is that you have the opportunity to invent projects. You can see a need or opportunity to fix a problem, figure out how you approach that problem, and then craft a project around it.”
Archinect recently invited me to talk about urban design in the public and private realms, pedagogical approaches to urban design vs. urban planning, and my earlier days in Los Angeles as an Archinect editor. In the resulting One-to-One podcast, we discuss my current work in the City of Glendale, urban design education, and how the post-sprawl paradigm being developed in Los Angeles will become the guidebook for many more cities in the US, particularly those ever-expanding desert cities in the southwest.
